Distance from the South Downs Way: Half a mile
The small village of Washington is located inland from Worthing, and between Amberley and Steyning. It’s surrounded by beautiful downland scenery and watched over by the famous Chanctonbury ring. It makes an excellent stopping off point if you’re walking or cycling the South Downs Way. There’s a pub, a couple of B&Bs, a village store and a post office.
Getting Here & Home Again
By Train & Bus
The closest railway station is Amberley, 6 miles away, with direct trains to London Victoria (1 hour 20 mins) and to Arundel (5 minutes) and the south coast beyond. There are regular bus services to Worthing, Brighton and Horsham.
By Car
Washington is ideally located close to the intersection of the A24 & A283. The A24 heads north to Dorking and the M25 and south to Worthing, whilst the A283 connects Washington to Steyning and Shoreham-by-sea to the east and Pulborough and beyond to the west. There is limited on-street parking in the village centre and a free car park by the South Downs Way, just off the A24 to the south of the village.
